This website is dedicated to the loving memory of Mr.and Mrs. Demeter J. Kollias by their children, John and Francine.
“Kiki (Angeliki Flamburis) and Jim” were both raised in Watertown and were faithful members of the Taxiarchae Parish since their youth. They met at a church dance and were married in 1940. They later moved to Belmont and raised their two children while continuing their active participation in the Taxiarchae community.
Jim began his stewardship with the Church in earnest in the late 40’s. Realizing, with many other parishioners, the need for Taxiarchae to grow, he helped his father-in-law, Harry Flamburis, Chairman of the Building Committee, and others to move forward with the purchase of land on Bigelow Avenue in 1949 and the Church was completed in 1950. In June of 1958, while he was President of the Parish Council, the original community center was opened. It is now the Righellis Hall. He also served as President of the Harris J. Booras Chapter of AHEPA. He continued to serve his parish wherever he was needed until his death in 1980. Jim was an engaging man with a warm heart and a brilliant mind. He loved people and they loved him.
Kiki assisted in all the Church activities and was happy to help out anytime. She never said “no”. She was an active member of the Philoptochos, following in her late mother’s footsteps. Moskanthi Flamburis was a past president of the Taxiarchae Philoptochos. Kiki was a gracious lady who loved doing for others and never asked for anything in return. She continued in her “giving style” until her death in 2001.
Both Kiki and Jim embraced their Greek religion and heritage and it was forever an integral part of their lives. They loved the Taxiarchae community and were so proud to be a part of its family. Most of their lives were spent watching their church move forward and grow. How happy they would be to see this website.
It is therefore with love and gratitude that their children dedicate this site to them. May their memory be eternal.
